Hints for
the "Treasure" Hunts
Depending on the city, the
"treasure" might be pirate's gold, a "roving"
party, valuable stock, or even your car keys. Regardless, all the
treasure hunts work the same way, and here are a few hints that might
help you find your way.
- Look
on both sides of the street.
- Look
at every photo including small photos
- Text
clues may be anywhere (i.e. photo titles, within the text of page,
or in photos).
- You
can follow a street to the end, even if it changes names.
- Stay
on the road or path until the clues tell you to turn. If you reach
the end of the road, you've missed a clue.
- Some
clues require that you leave the street.
- If
a clue is in "quotation marks," you must find the word
exactly as it appears.
- Some
intersections are T-shaped.
- Be
prepared to cover some ground between clues.
- The
treasure map is in a window that can be moved (click and drag the
title bar) and resized (click and drag a border). Reposition it as
needed as you search for clues or print it out and close the
window.
- If
you click in the middle of a street, a Street History will appear
along with pictures of every building on the street. This can be
very helpful.
- All
the clues are taken directly from photographs available for
viewing at each site.
- The
game will take you approximately one to two hours, but you will
see lots of cool stuff along the hunt.
Additional
Hints:
The
treasure hunt gets a little tougher as you work your way through it.
Here are some extra hints that might help:
-
When
you see an architectural detail as a clue, be sure to look in
EVERY photo associated with the site. The architectural detail may
otherwise be missed.
-
Put
yourself in the “real world” when taking directions literally.
If you are walking south on a street and directions tell you to
turn left, you would head east.
